The Story of DJ L-Boogie
From the Streets of Houston to the Stages of the World
DJ L-Boogie is a Galveston Texas original — born and raised, shaped by the city’s rich musical culture and fueled by an early passion for the art of DJing. From the beginning, he was drawn to the power of music to move people, and he wasted no time putting that passion to work. As a DJ in high school, he taught himself the fundamentals of spinning records and mixing at local events and parties, developing the ear and instinct that would define his career.
Prairie View A&M University — Where a Legend Was Forged
DJ L-Boogie went on to graduate from Prairie View A&M University, where his skills took a quantum leap forward. It was there that he met and began learning the true tricks of the trade from world-famous DJ Premier — one of the most iconic hip-hop DJs and producers in music history. That connection and that training would set the foundation for everything that followed.
His influences to this day remain a who’s who of DJ royalty: DJ Premier, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Jam Master Jay, and DJ Scratch — legends who defined the craft and standards DJ L-Boogie holds himself to every time he steps behind the decks.
Category 5 Productions — Built from the Ground Up
In 1997, DJ L-Boogie founded Category 5 Productions, a full-service DJ and entertainment company rooted in Houston and built on a simple promise: deliver an unmatched experience at every event. Over the next three decades, that promise would be kept at hundreds of major events for some of the city’s most elite clientele and respected corporations.
Specializing in weddings, corporate events, and upscale private parties, Category 5 Productions became the name Houston’s top event planners and booking agencies call first. DJ L-Boogie became known across the industry as “The Premier DJ” in the greater Houston area — a title earned not handed.
A Radio Career That Spans the Nation
DJ L-Boogie’s influence has never been limited to the stage. His mix show career has taken him to radio stations across the country, including:
